Back in the USA + A Note About Shoes
Sorry about my brief disappearance— my free time and wifi access were a little sketchy toward the end of my trip, so it made posting difficult. And, of course, the minute the festival ended I got sick. That always seems to happen to me after a big project or event. I guess the adrenaline stops pushing away the germs and I finally get attacked by whatever’s been hovering. Or, maybe...

Movie Day!
(Emmanuelle Riva plays “Anne” in Michael Haneke’s Palme d’Or winner, Amour)
Today the festival re-played all the films that were in this year’s competition line-up, so I took full advantage and saw four of them (in this order):
Killing Them Softly (aka, the Brad Pitt film)
Amour (aka, the winner!)
The Paperboy (aka, the Zac Efron-becomes-a-man film)
Cosmopolis...

I Think I'm Starting to Get the Hang of This!
And it ends tomorrow! Lots to fill you in on- red carpet premieres (and attempts at them), Un Certain Regard screenings, my screening, networking breakfasts, parties that actually require an invite, and feet that are completely wrecked (sorry, that just took it down to a bad visual, didn’t it?). Anywho, many many things to write about, but first I need to get through one last day. Stay...

Today's the Day!
Today is the big screening I came to Cannes for— my film will be playing in the Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at The American Pavilion! Hooray! For those of you who don’t know, my film is a super short short about a woman director who decides to make a statement by wearing a dress to set. It’s a playful poke at those who think directing is a man’s job. As you can imagine,...

TIP - Add A Twitter Stream
One handy little tip to help you keep an eye on what’s going on in Cannes is the Hootesuite Twitter search stream. Hootesuite is a great way to keep track of all your social media accounts in one place, so if you don’t have it and you have a a product or yourself to promote, sign up! It’s free! Once you have it up and running it’s a breeze to add a search stream (I...

More Photos - Fashion Advice
It’s always important to have at least one outfit that matches the carpet. And then you must sit on that carpet and take a picture. (Writing my first blog post from Cannes- on a Nespresso high) Forget cute shoes, I had to go practical on Sun when it started getting windy and rainy. Everyone keeps saying this weather isn’t normal for Cannes, and they promise it will improve.

Bonjour - My French Sucks (Cannes Update I)
OK, so I think the free Nespresso is starting to kick in (lots of free Nespresso available- dangerous!). Hopefully, this will help me write my first post from Cannes. If it starts to get weird, just assume I’m getting the caffeine jitters and sweating profusely (not much will make sense after that point). Until then, here we go…
On the way to the airport I realized I forgot my blow...

I Don't Know Where to Begin
Still trying to wrap my head around this place, but just wanted to let you know that I made it. There is so much going on here. I’ve been to some big festivals, but this is a whole other world. More soon…

Mentioned! Wellywood Woman Post
I think when/if I have any additional press or blog mentions to share from here on, I’ll start it with “Mentioned!” Kind of like Nikki Finke’s “Toldja!” but perhaps a little nicer? Anywho, here’s a post by the lovely Marian from Wellywood Woman that mentions this here blog and my screening in Cannes (with art from the postcard!): ”Cannes...

Cannes Officially Opens Today
In just about thirty minutes, Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom will screen as the opening night film at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. Let the games begin! (I’ll be joining the games on Fri.)

Pronouncing Cannes
A few people have questioned my pronunciation of Cannes, but I’m sticking with “can.” Let’s put it to rest once and for all— here’s some back-up:
CANS are what you find in a six pack. KHAN is the bad guy in the second Star Trek movie. CAN is a city in the south of France, famous for its film festival.
Cannes is pronounced can as in “can of...

Worry #73
I’m worried I won’t be invited to any parties. I feel a little silly worrying about this at my age, but I don’t want to be the big dork eating a baguette all alone in her room. This dork wants to mingle!

BFFs and Aunties
Last night my BFF came over to help me figure out what to take and what to ditch (surely, Ken Loach did the same with his BFF last night). She’s a wiz with accessories and shoes! That’s my weakest area, so it was a relief she had time to make a visit (she works crazy hours in the music biz, so between the two of our crazy schedules we barely see each other anymore). It was SO...

Promo Items!
I think I did a few too many fashion posts in a row, so I’d like to switch it up and get back to business. Yes indeed, Cannes is first and foremost a business trip. I’ve been getting a variety of advice in terms of how to approach the business aspect of the festival— from “as soon as you arrive, run to the festival and start setting meetings- IGNORE YOUR JETLAG” to...

Worry #127
I’ve been having this worry that something awful is going to happen just before I leave and it will prevent me from going. Possible scenarios include car accident, breaking leg on something in my messy apartment, catching flesh-eating disease from something gross that is surely growing in my messy apartment, or dropping one of the free weights at the gym on my mouth, breaking all my front...

I Owe You An Email...
…or a tweet, or a comment, or a reply, or a post or maybe even a drawing! I’m really behind on my responses, but please know that I know and I’m making my way through my lists. One big reason I’m behind on things is because two weeks ago Thursday I set out on what I’m calling my work travel gauntlet- a series of small trips that felt like endless hurdles to get to...

About That Update...
I might have lied about posting an update last night. Sorry about that. I was being a little too ambitious considering it was my first real night back after my work travel gauntlet. I ended up spending most of last night researching cell phone options for my trip. Luckily, I had several friends on Facebook offering me advice—and it was good advice! It gave me a lot of options…which is actually...
